Establishing herself as the vocalist for beautiful days, an indie rock band from Seoul, from 2007-2012, Oh Heejung released her first solo EP, “Everybody here wants you back.” An eight song EP that was crowdfunded and solo produced in her home studio, her return marked a trip into the electronic-pop music genre.
Now in 2014, Oh Heejung has returned with her second EP, “Set Adrift.” A continuation of elements on Everybody here wants you back, Set Adrift is a more confident release that showcases her experience. With a bigger mixture of sounds and instruments, Set Adrift is a sign of confidence in composing music.
Songs like “Hedgehog” fit naturally as extensions of her first EP, while “I Want You” contains elements from beautiful days. Her lead single “My Body and Soul” will surely get you addicted to the electronic-pop arrangements and vocals that sounds like it is weaving in-and-out of the synthetic audio landscape.
In her own words about her first EP, “I told myself to write music with simple melody and lyrics. I wanted to also show a different and altered sound from a big band scale” (koreanindie.com
). The EP uses these core concepts, but actually expands on them greatly.
Set Adrift is a set of songs reintroducing a more experienced and talented solo musician.
